A bridge may be used to replace missing teeth, help maintain the shape of your face and alleviate stress in your bite.
A bridge replaces missing teeth with artificial teeth, looks great and literally bridges the gap where one or more teeth may have been. Your bridge can be made from gold, alloys, porcelain or a combination of these materials and is bonded onto surrounding teeth for support. Since the bridge is bonded to surrounding teeth, it is a fixed restoration.
The success of any bridge depends on its foundation – the other teeth, gums, or bone to which it is attached. Therefore, it's very important to keep your existing teeth, gums, and jaw healthy and strong.
A partial denture is similar to a bridge in that it replaces missing teeth with artificial teeth, looks great and bridges the gap where one or more teeth may have been. The major difference between a bridge and a partial is that a partial is removable. It attaches to your existing teeth on either side of the missing teeth by a clasp and is easily removed for cleaning.
The success of any partial denture depends on its foundation – the other teeth, gums or bone to which it is attached. Therefore, it is very important to keep your existing teeth, gums, and jaw healthy and strong.
You may wish to consider an implant supported partial to have a more secure and stable option.
